Bar Harbor is full of fantastic food joints! With so many places to choose from, it can be hard to know what is worth the time and money during your stay. But no worries, this guide is here to help alleviate that stress of weeding out the bad restaurants. Below are all of my top recommendations of the best eats in Bar Harbor! I promise they won’t disappoint.
Ice Cream
Starting with the important things here: ice cream!
CJ’s Big Dipper
My all time favorite ice cream in town is right here at CJ’s Big Dipper. After a cone of fresh homemade blueberry soft-serve, your world will never be the same. It is truly delicious and so worth every penny! They even offer an almond milk dairy-free option of this delectable dessert.
Heads up that they only accept cash, so be prepared. And alongside their blueberry soft-serve they offer a wide range of delicious hard-serve flavors, milkshakes, and more!
Mount Desert Island Ice Cream
If you are looking to be more adventurous with your ice cream endeavors, I encourage you to check out Mount Desert Island Ice Cream. All of there ice creams are homemade and their assortment features really unique flavors and combinations. The company has won a series of rewards and recognition from media for having some of the best and most creative ice cream in the United States.
Cafes
The Stadium
A perfect stop at any time of day, The Stadium offers a variety of freshly baked sweet treats, breakfast foods, and delicious coffees. This is the only place in Bar Harbor that sells popovers, so if you were looking to try this popular New England food, this is the stop for you! I highly recommend the Acadian Turtle coffee, as it is absolutely delicious and has such a unique flavor.
Acadia Perk
A cute coffee shop just next to the Village Green, Acadia Perk is the perfect quaint coffee shop. With a lot of uniqueness, both in the shop itself and the products they offer, the shop is perfect for a coffee pick-me-up at any time of day! Their most popular item is by far the blueberry macchiato, which is a drink you must try while visiting Bar Harbor.
Choco Latte
If you are looking for a café to hang out for a while, Choco Latte is the place for you. Whether you want to relax, read a book, or get some work done, this is the most spacious café in town to settle down and spend some time. And everything here is absolutely delicious! From the coffee to their bagels and sandwiches, you cannot go wrong with anything you get here.
Cafe This Way
By far the best breakfast joint in town, make sure to stop by this cafe during your time in Bar Harbor. And if you are looking to have some classic Maine blueberry pancakes on your trip, this is the best place in town to get them! I have never been disappointed at Cafe This Way, and it has the best atmosphere to spend a morning here.
Restaurants
Melt
A great place for a quick lunch break, Melt serves a variety of paninis, loaded fries, and other fun foods. All of their sandwiches are made on fresh sourdough bread and grilled to perfection. The Philly is really delicious, and I definitely recommend it! If you’re looking for something on the sweet side, give their blueberry cheesecake poppers a try. You can’t go wrong with this delicious fried poppers coated in cinnamon sugar and stuffed with creamy cheesecake and wild Maine blueberries!
Geddy’s
If you want casual family dining with a specialty in seafood, Geddy’s is where you want to head. Right along Main Street, Geddy’s is the go-to spot for many bar harbor visitors. With fantastic local seafood, as well as great all-american options for everyone in the family, it is the best place to go to satisfy everyone.
Rosalies
The best little pizza diner you will find in town. Unfortunately this shop is only open during the evenings, but the smell of the pizza as well as the lines out the door is the perfect indicator of how delicious the pizza is!
Side Street Cafe
Nestled off of busy main street, Side Street Cafe will never do you wrong. I have never once had a bad meal here, and the atmosphere makes it all the much better. This is usually a pretty popular spot in Bar Harbor, but a life hack is that they also own the Annex right next door, and its the exact same food 😉 If you are looking to go with a local specialty, the lobster mac n cheese is so delicious!
McKay’s
The phenomenal food at McKay’s in combination with a perfect atmosphere makes for a wonderful time at McKay’s. A bit more of an upscale dining experience, McKay’s offers top quality meals ranging from steak, to seafood, to pasta! There is an outdoor seating area that is so relaxing, especially at night when the twinkly lights are on. Meanwhile, there is a number of indoor seating as well as a bar in the converted Victorian house. Regardless of where you choose to enjoy your meal, the ambiance is perfection, and so is the food!
